My name is Robert Bruce Anderson. I have always been called Bruce. I am 38 years old. I was born and raised in Alabama. I moved to Kingston in 2017, and I intend to make it my home for years to come.
In the past 18 years, I have been a waiter, bartender, barista, and delivery person while also pursuing photography gigs. My creative design gradually became a larger part of my professional life, which has resulted in my enrollment in the Graphic Design program at St. Lawrence College.
Since I began studying the Graphic Arts, I feel as though I have finally found an appropriate use for my skillset. I have always been adept at design, visual communication, and puzzle-solving. Now I have gained the tools and the language to demonstrate these skills.
Broadly, I would like to work for a set of clients who need design consultation and photographic work at random unpredictable times. I would gladly work nights and weekends to solve a design challenge. I do not require regular hours, and I tend to do my best work in long uninterrupted bursts.
I wish to help others achieve their goals and communicate clearly to their audiences. My skills would be best applied towards the more tangible and traditional avenues such as print and photography. I would also find satisfaction consulting small businesses on their web design. I have a talent for writing clearly and correctly, so I could edit websites to be professional and clean.
I am adept at explaining complex topics concisely. My experience in food service has given me the ability to speak well. I can understand a customer’s needs and I can advise them towards an appropriate decision. I do not seek out leadership roles, but I do recognize communication breakdowns, and I have found solutions with great success. I have redesigned forms for clarity, written guides for employees, and aided in scheduling.
My ideal work environment is a small business who would benefit from a puzzle-solving designer. I would experience their day-to-day activities and identify problems, propose solutions, and work to perfect the workflow. My skills would be advantageous to public-facing companies. I can help non-designers understand what they need and why it is worth the time and money. A good company would be one that regularly communicates with average individuals who are not involved in the world of design.
My skill level is on par with newly graduated students roughly fifteen years my junior. The biggest competition comes from fresh enthusiastic young minds who represent the future.Other competitors could include 30-somethings who are self-taught or have learned extensive talents in real-world design environments.
I am mature, but I love a good joke. I feel that everything has the potential to be fun, clever, and informative. My work is full of optimism and humour.
I am a worldly individual with a wide knowledge base. I came to Canada,in part, because the country’s commitment to multiculturalism.
Graphic Design is the art of visual communication, which has always been a passion of mine.I am well educated in the liberal arts. My family is extremely well read and informed, and these values have been instilled in me since childhood.I am a puzzle-solver. I am well equipped to connect disparate ideas together in pursuit of design solutions.
