In 1935 Howard Hughes designed a revolutionary airplane with the purpose of setting a new speed record. He succeeded by creating new ways of streamlining the surface of the plane to make it slip through the air with ease. The plane design was never bought by any manufacturer and remains a one-of-a-kind artifact of aviation. The innovations he demonstrated were adapted into aircraft design and was an undeniably futuristic forward-thinking design.
My illustration spread will feature a dominant image of the plane flying over the Mojave Desert. It will have a large title in an art deco typeface. The style will resemble posters of the 1930s. There will be three or four detail boxes showing close up views of the instrument panel and other elements of the plane. I plan to do the majority of work in Illustrator.
