Subject
This book will be a historical narrative of the golden age of aviation which occurred between the end of the first and the beginning of the second world war. The newly invented airplane was being refined and developed by private enthusiasts. Many radical machines were developed, and many records were broken. This book will tell a few of the more interesting stories of air travel in the early days
Style
The cover will feature a propeller plane in flight over an airfield. The art style will be a reference to linocut or woodcut. The image will be rendered entirely in black and white with thick horizontal lines similar to the way linoleum is cut in order to make ink prints. The style is old fashioned, but also reminiscent of the art deco movement which was active in the ‘20s and ‘30s. My primary inspiration was the work of M. C. Escher, but I intend to use a much more representational approach rather than the reality-bending style he is famous for.
