Our first trip to Burning Man was a blur. I barely understood where we were at any point. I brought a simple point-and-shoot Sony and resolved to bring better gear the next time.
This year we experienced rain at the playa. The water turned the dust into a fine mud that made travel impossible for the first day. The majority of ticket holders were stuck in the car lineup while the festival was put on hold. The result was a harder packed playa with easier biking conditions.
The third time I visited the festival I was given a press pass and a list of sculptures to photograph. I learned the haphazard nature of the festival can make some installations impossible to locate.
